The practice of wound care and hyperbaric medicine requires a broad knowledge base and honed clinical insight, but without skills in performing procedures the clinician is poorly prepared for daily patient care. A variety of wound care procedures and skill sets are required for successful outcomes. These include debridement, dressing removal and applications, tissue biopsy, wound incision and drainage, grafting, dermal substitute implantation, matrix applications, compression therapy, photography, negative pressure wound therapy devices, etc. These wound care procedure continuing education courses will most importantly provide training in the proper technique and sequence for individual procedures, but additionally will deliver educational information regarding the rationale for any wound care intervention as well as the patient preparation, documentation, indications, contraindications, risks associated with the procedure.
